The Trinidad & Tobago Horseback Riding Club was officially formed in January 1991 after many years on the drawing board. The club was formed to encourage riding as a sport and recreation and to promote good fellowship amongst riders. It also aims to improve and maintain the standard of riding and horsemanship. The Club changed its name to The Trinidad and Tobago Equestrian Association in February 1997 as the first step in becoming the only official body representing Equestrian Sport in the country. With over 100 members and at least 6 independent Stables, the Association's long term strategic plan is to produce international level horses and riders. In recent years, they have had international riders at the Pan American Games.
Since its inception the Association has organised numerous key competitions in Show-jumping, Dressage, Cross-country and Gymkhanas for riders of all levels. These take place throughout the year and vary from regional to international significance. The Association has also sent several riders to compete in Jamaica, U.S. Virgin Islands, Barbados, Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana. Foreign Coaches have also conducted special clinics here, usually twice a year. The highlight of our local show-jumping calendar is our annual Invitational Event, now in its 6th year. It is usually held in mid-May and riders from the region are invited to compete on our horses. The association is now in the process of acquiring F.E.I. standard jumps and equipment in order to qualify for membership in the coming year.
